My 2001 attempt to End Prohibition and stop Multi-National control was won by 29 police officers fruitlessly raiding my campaign office, 9 days before the polls. However,  God gave us the perfect plant, yet after 8,000 years, Du Pont who patented the petro-chemical synthetic industry, conned the Doctors into prohibiting “Marijuana” lying it was the Mexican Loco-Weed not Cannabis – their most popular medicine. Its now payback

POLICIES as Listed above.

Born in Rockhampton, my Dad was President of Hotels Association. Whilst in the Commercial Hotel, Clermont, I sat for Junior before returning to Rocky Grammar and the Criterion Hotel. I managed hotels but teaching yoga in Rocky 13yrs ago, I was busted for 2 grams of Cannabis and told it was up to me to change the law. I moved to Nimbin, bought land, lived in a tipi and initiated Mardi Grass Law Reform Rallies, formed a spiritual charity, cared for and de-toxified homeless youths, whilst fundraising and submitting Hemployment Models.

MAJOR ISSUES

Central Queensland has been battling erosion and salinity, the reef is being choked and we have too many droughts. Too many people are isolated or live in poverty, yet we have the ability to produce the world’s largest natural renewable resource industry in our backyard. Imagine growing our own Biodiesel fuel. Cars only need to adjust their timer to use this fuel. Why have wars to satisfy governments. We are the people and we are the power.

PM?  Definitely not anyone controlled by the Multi-Nationals and the IMF who sneak in Free Trade Deals, sell off our assets like our State Forests, Underground Water, bring in cheap foreign labour to replace our workers. Not to mention the Fractional Reserve System. Banks don’t lend us other people’s money. We give them money when we REPAY the LOAN.  Yuk! Don’t give any of them any more power. We are the people and we are the power.

Would you like a representative who’s truly born and bred in Rockhampton -  someone honourable enough to stand up, against all odds, and fight for her community and environment ?

I, Judy Canales, of the Help End Marijuana Prohibition ( HEMP) Party

believe Central Queensland should be the first place to grow Re-Legalised Cannabis.

I conducted the first HEMP Forums here nine years ago and the Hemp trials followed.

Now, is the time to develop the largest natural renewable resource industry in the world creating billions of dollars and Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. - growing a new economy.

From fuel to food, plastics to medicine and as for drugs, remember, seven million Australians have smoked cannabis and we are not criminals. However, Cannabis is a “focus” drug – it “facilitates the predisposed condition”. Therefore Guilt and Fear can lead to Paranoia”. And after all, it’s not the drug which causes problems in society but the problems in society which give good drugs a bad name.

Vote 1. Judy Canales for  H.E.M.P.

FAMILY FIRST -
AUSTRALIA'S TALIBAN?

The Taliban and the American religious right have a great deal in
common. They want to smash the division between religion and state, and
force everyone to live by laws derived by a literal but narrow and very
selective reading of traditional holy scriptures.

The Family First Party is the voice of that religious right in this
federal election, and represents a highly dangerous trend. It is part of
a further Americanisation of Australian politics. This can also be seen
in the Presidential style campaigns being run by the major parties, and
the constant references to middle Australia.

Every law is an act of violence at least in a latent sense. If a citizen
does not comply, the police will use physical force to arrest and detain
the lawbreaker and haul them before the courts. This is a completely
appropriate response to someone who is mugging random strangers at knife
point, but a completely excessive and tyrannical response to someone who
is smoking out the back.

The TV advertising campaign the Family First have been running,
virtually accusing the Greens of peddling drugs on every street corner,
is nothing less than a hate crime against the Australian people. The
decades of tough prohibition laws have succeeded in producing a
situation where drugs are readily available in every prison and every
high school in Australia. The suggestion that things would be even twice
as bad if the laws weren't so tough is laughable. You couldn't reach the
same level of saturation of drug use in the community if you stood
on street corners and gave out drugs for free.

Queenslanders will see through this charade of morality. Remember all
those years of Joh Bjelke-Petersen sprouting righteous Christian
morality? At the same time that he led a direct assault on the rights of
the Qld citizenry, he was also presiding over the most incredible
corruption, including police protection of and direct involvement with
major drug traffickers. Prohibition thrives on the alliance between Mr
Big and Mr Bigot.

TO HEMP PARTY MEMBERS AND VOTERS

This is to inform you that in the last minute frenzy of preference dealing we may have made a mistake in attempting to maximise our prospects in the NSW Senate Election.

In the 2001 election we received over 35,000 votes so this time the phone didn't stop ringing from people who usually never want to talk to us and we tripped up in a moment of election fever!

There is a possibility that our 'above the line' preferences may end up with a party which is not supportive of our aims. Since that chance exists we are asking you to vote for HEMP 'below the line’, on the 9th of October.

To do this you will have to number ALL 78 squares. We know it may be a drag, and you may need to take one, but at least that way you get to make your own decisions, and as a bonus you get the pleasure of placing last whichever party you dislike the most.

With the complicated system of counting Senate votes your last selection is the only party that you can be absolutely certain won't receive your preference!

To vote 'below the line' put (1) & (2) for Group M Help End Marijuana Prohibition and then number every square below the line. For cannabis law reform policy the next best to vote for, of the majors, are Group X The Greens, then Group B The Democrats, and then Group J Labor.

There are too many groups which deserve last place for us to make a particular recommendation.

We are very sorry about the mess, inconvenience and feel stupid. It is true our man doing the deal wasn't stoned at the time. Maybe if he was he would have been more attentive and careful!

Despite all this, it remains a fact that hemp makes ethanol viable and could end wood chipping old growth forests tomorrow. Just imagine your ballot paper is made from hemp fibre, take the time and vote below the line.

Please pass the word onto your friends to vote HEMP 'below the line' in the NSW Senate.
Note: this only applies in NSW.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Balderstone
NSW Senate Candidate

MEDIA RELEASE
METHANOL, NOT ETHANOL
HEMP BIOMASS FOR FUEL

In recent years a lot of attention has been focused on the development
of an ethanol industry in Australia. We have also seen the continuing
controversy as to whether ethanol will damage car motors, while others
want to legislate to require all petrol to have a ten per cent ethanol
content.

If the aim was simply to develop an organic source of fuel rather than
to come to the aid of a struggling sugar industry, the pyrolysis of a
broad range of biomass sources to produce methanol would make much more
sense. Formula One racing cars use methanol for their fuel.

Current world production of biomass is estimated at 150 billion tonnes a
year, mostly wild plant growth. With biomass, CO2 is taken from the air
when the crop is growing. When it is burned, the CO2 is released,
creating a balanced system.

Cannabis Sativa is the most prolific of the plants suitable for growing
as crops for producing biomass commercially for fuel. It is a woody
plant containing 77% cellulose. Wood produces 60% cellulose. It grows
well in almost all climates, reaching maximum biomass yield in about
four months.

Extensive trials in Europe, with the hemp growing in a temperate climate
and producing two crops over an eight month period, have demonstrated
that a hectare will yield around fifty tonnes of hemp biomass. From an
area the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (173 x 148 meters, around
2 hectares) the annual yield from a hemp crop after pyrolysis would be
around 40,000 liters of methanol.

17th September 2004

"USE THE SECRET BALLOT
TO COUNTER THE FEAR"

HEMP PRESIDENT
MICHAEL BALDERSTONE
TO LAUNCH HEMP CAMPAIGN
THURSDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 4 PM
RED ROOM STUDENT UNION COMPLEX UQ

Michael Balderstone, President of Help End Marijuana Prohibition, a
party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission, will launch
the HEMP election campaign for 2004 at a meeting starting at 4 pm on
Thursday 16/9/04 in the Red Room at the University of Queensland. The
meeting is being sponsored by the UQ cannabis reform group High Society.

Mr Balderstone is heading the NSW Senate ticket, with HEMP secretary
Graham Askey second on the ticket. In Queensland, seasoned HEMP
activists Guy Freemarijuana (1) and Tony Kneipp (2) will contest the
Senate, while John Jiggens is standing for the seat of Griffith. HEMP
will also be running candidates for the Senate in Victoria.

Mr Balderstone, who is the public face of the Nimbin Mardi Grass, will
tell the meeting that voters should take full advantage of the secret
ballot to counter the fear instilled in ordinary people by the unjust
and tyrannical cannabis laws.

"The draconian cannabis laws have introduced fear into society in an
insidious and persistent way", Mr Balderstone said.
"It eats away at the social glue that binds us all together."

"Major parties are fond of saying that a first preference to a minor
party or independent is a wasted vote", Mr Balderstone said. "Clearly
this is the opposite of the truth about how preferential voting works,
and is nothing but propaganda. I call on informed voters to make their
vote count to the fullest and send a powerful message by voting 1 for
HEMP."

Entertainment will be provided between speakers by a DJ as well as live
music from Guy Freemarijuana and Friends, Honest John & the Lying
Rodents and others.

HEMP FOR VICTORY

in the

AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL ELECTIONS

The Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) Party has selected candidates to
contest the NSW Senate election. They are Michael Balderstone - curator of
the Nimbin Museum and President of the Hemp Embassy, and Graham Askey, Party
Secretary, a think tank member, and a Hunter River picker from the sixties.

While HEMP maintains all forms of cannabis should be re-legalised, the
campaign this year will focus on the more feasible goal of regulated
cannabis supply for medical purposes. Mr Balderstone added, "It's also
ludicrous that farmers aren't allowed to trial large areas of low THC hemp;
Tassie woodchipping could stop tomorrow".

For the election campaign plans are afoot to resurrect the 'Cannabus',
famous for its epic journey to Bob Carr's 99 NSW Drug Summit, and again take
the 'Big Joint' on the road across NSW.

HEMP advises all voters who have moved house since they last voted to notify
the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) of their new address by
re-enrolling. In negotiating the AEC's Party Registration obstacle course
HEMP found that 10% of its membership had been taken off the rolls in the
last 12 months. Forms are available at any Post Office.

HEMP's preference arrangements have not been finalised and the Party will
write to all candidates for their views on cannabis law reform.

The 'War on Drugs' that Howard's coalition engages Australians in, pitting
Aussie against Aussie, is a corrupt and immoral affair.

" Make no mistake, the war on drugs is another American driven war, not
unlike the war on terror. These wars are unending, profiting the unseen
giant corporations who sell armaments and pharmaceutical drugs", added Mr
Balderstone.

A Message from George Bernard Shaw

The old notion that people can "keep themselves to themselves" and not be touched by what is happening to their neighbors, or even to people who live a hundred miles off, is a most dangerous mistake. The saying that we are members one of another is not a mere pious formula...It is a literal truth; for though the rich end of the town can avoid living with the poor end, it cannot avoid dying with it when the plague comes.

People will be able to keep to themselves as much as they please when they have made an end to poverty; but until then they will not be able to shut out the sights and sounds and smells of poverty from their daily walks, nor feel sure from day to day that its most violent and fatal evils will not reach them through their strongest police guards.
