"Nimbin is an ideal place to launch HEMP's campaign", said Michael Balderstone, President of HEMP and NSW Senate candidate, "we've become a refugee village from the war on drugs".

Nigel Freemarijuana, who is running with Guy Freemarijuana for the Queensland Senate, came down from Brisbane for the launch, though he wasn't easily recognisable in a sniffer dog suit led by a mock policeman working the Nimbin streets. Eventually the dog managed to find someone who didn't smell of cannabis!

Local candidates for Page and Richmond, Judy Canales and Dean Jefferys, spoke from atop the Peacebus which will be touring their electorates until the election on November 10.

For the fifty or so HEMP supporters at the launch, it's all very simple and obvious. "There's plenty of drug experience and knowledge in this community, and we are beyond ready for a sane approach to drug use. We're sick of being persecuted for a herb all our ancestors used", said Michael Balderstone. "The global pharmaceutical companies have a monopoly on pain management. What a rort!".

Nigel wanted to know how you have "half" a puff, as Tony Abbott did! Everyone tried, but they couldn't quite work it out!

HEMP is asking for aware people to use the election opportunity to send a message to the government of how important this issue is.

HEMP Senate Candidate
